Day 8 - A Free Rest Day...Ahhhhhhh

Rainy, rainy and cold day....and it is JULY!!!  We had a full rest day and made the most of it.  We ran a bunch of errands, checked out options for replacing our current luggage and scrapped that idea.  We've devised Plan B with the help of George's underweight bags, reassessing our current and future needs, and realizing that WOWjet's weight limits are about 12 pounds lighter than the other airlines (a way for them to tag unaware visitors with excess baggage fees).  We found the FREE hot tub at the Golden Beach in downtown and checked that out.  It was a bit busy on a cold and rainy day.  We'll be visiting that in the next few days.

Had to replace my CPAP mask. Went to a medical supply house...no luck. They referred me to the hospital. I popped into the ER for info. Overheard the receptionist telling a group of Canadians that to see the doctor would be a flat $750 up front. Foreign insurance not honored. Yikes. They referred me to the respiratory department. Lovely woman took time to do some research for me. Referred me to yet another medical supply company. Drove there and they GAVE me a new mask for FREE. The Nordic gods are smiling on me.

We rented Journey to the Center of the Earth 2008 on iTunes.  We were at Snaefellsjoekull National Park yesterday where this film and the 1959 original with Pat Boone, James Mason and Arlene Dahl was filmed. It was fun to see it all over again in the film. We drove the same roads, climbed the same crater, and remember that we went down into that lava tube too, Great fun!!!

We've been in Iceland eight days, have enjoyed 8 dinners, 7 breakfasts, and 7 lunches...and we have spend a total of $312 on food so far. We've had steak, fish, lots of chicken, cold cuts, pasta, hearty soups, tons of fresh veggies. You all know how i cook. So...per person that works out to $4.70 per meal. Guess we know something about budgets! PS: If we had eaten in a restaurant, that $312 would have bought us three meals...maybe.

This evening we planned our two-day road trip to the West Fjords.
