Our Last Club Adventure - Day 3 - Kathmandu

Handy Quick Links to our Blog Highlights

We started early again today with a visit to the temple where cremations and funerals are held.  It was a bit somber watching the process of carrying the body to the pyre and the ceremonial circling, and then the lighting of the fire.  Further upstream we watch as family brought loved ones down to the river's edge to bath the feet of the body and pour water into their mouths before being taken to the pyre.  The body takes three hours to reduce, then the ashes are swept into the river, the water whcih eventually joins with the Ganges in |India.

Next we headed over to the Bhaktapur and the Durbar Square to visit many temples and monuments.  We had lunch at a local cafe and then explored the area.  Our guide was great and we enjoyed entering the many buildings. It was busy and hot and by late in the day we were bushed.

 |Instead of going back to the hotel however we opted for an evening cultural dancing show and dinner.  We were taken to a former palace where we enjoyed a couple of hours in the cocktail lounge before being seated for a full spread Nepali dinner.   The dancers preformed around the tables accompanied by a group of musicians.  It was a grand way to end a very long day.
