Central Kalahari District and the San Bushman

We were up before dawn and headingh toward the village of Ghanzi in the central Kalahari.  We traveled over highland desert most of the day and arrived in time for lunch at our desert camp. After lunch we met our local guide who took us on a guided walk with our San hosts.  This was an opportunity to learn more about the San culture and to interact with their desert environment.

We had a great campsite for the night.

This is what they called a "donkey heater" used to make hot water for the showers.

Our guide Robert led the march.

Our San People hosts were charming and dressed in authentic hides.
The smiling hole is from a desert scorpion.
One of the bushman demonstrated the hunt and shot his arrow.  Humorously it then took him and the rest of his friends five minutes to find the arrow.

Nicola got his chance to try "desert soap" after being invited to blacken his hands.

We ended the evening with a great dinner.  A group of San People came by to sing and dance.  However Bobbie and I were worn out and missed the show.
