Day 3 - Cardiff, Wales and an Awesome Castle

After breakfast we drove into the city center for the purpose of touring the castle.  It was of course raining again, subsiding as soon as we parked the car.  The city was under seige by fans of the British Grand Prix...starting at 3PM that same day.  The good part was that there were all there for the race so the castle was unusually empty.  The city is old, the capitol of Wales, and quaint with old world charm.
The stadium is ultramodern with a very modernistic derricks structures that hold up the roof.

The Animal Wall borders the castle on one side and had a huge assortment of humors and eclectic gargoyles.

Main entrance to the Castle Cardiff.
The air raid tunnels were very interesting.

The palace of the marquis was beautiful.

We then headed out to the streets ducking in and out of markets and shops as the rain came and went.

Our car has a full glass roof and this was the view from the back seat.

At the end of the day we headed back to our little hamlet were we popped into a pub built in 1550.  So cool.  They let us tour the dining rooms upstairs that didn't open for several hours.  Just beautiful.

So enjoying Wales along with you. I believe this is the castle we visited when we were in Cardiff. I will have to go back in my memory bank and check it out though. The one we visited was on a hill overlooking the town and river and had a drawbridge from the castle to the opposite side of the river that followed the newer vehicle bridge. Also, we visited one castle where Prince Charles had his coronation in the center of the complex. There is a round plate in the ground explaining the coronation I believe. We also visited Tintern Abbey somewhere in England. That is a really cool abbey to visit...Love York and The Lake District as well. Hope you get to both of those places. We purchased a castle pass but due to an embargo on fuel when we were in Wales we were forced to cancel the rest of our castle visiting and head back to Lakenheath AFB across England.
