Day 5 - A Wandering Day

When traveling in a foreign country a lot of folks get freaked out when they get lost or wander off the path...not us...we revel in a bit of the unknown.  We left our lovely home in Cardiff and headed out of town and against the morning traffic...whew...so glad we were going in the opposite direction.  Our GPS said it would take us about 90 minutes to get to our next home so we decided to do a bit exploring.  We looked at a map and plugged in the names of a few towns along the way.  We soon found ourselves in one small hamlet after another.  We even stopped once or twice to ask directions.

At this Visitor Center we found the world's smallest public cinema.  Too early for the show.
We popped in to the booth and made a call to Dr. Who.  SHE was not in.  The children's park was cuite.  We were to old.
We saw signs to a castle.  When we got there it was closed on Monday.  There was a fellow in a government truck at the gate getting ready to do some power line work.  He offered to unlock the gate and let us in.  We wandered around the ruins for a bit.  He was quite nice and offered us a bit of his local knowledge.  Wow.

This country manor was set high up on a hill nestled within the trees.  It was a good mile away.  Do I have a good zoom or what!!!

The roads got narrower.

And more narrow...just one car wide...barely...and no warning of oncoming vehicles.

AND NARROW STILL.

We finally emerged into this little town with it's quaint pub.

Another quaint little house in the woods.
In the village of Pembroke we found Henry VII's castle.  He's No.8's daddy.
For $6 each we wandered the many towers, tunnels, and enjoyed the views from the top.

This is the chamber where today's monarchy was born.  The baby depicted is No. 8 himself.  Henry, not Willie or Sam.

97 steps up and the same down.

And then by chance we found the underground cavern.  Very cool.

All in all we tramped up and down over 400 steps.  By the time we reached our Airbnb we were exhausted and took a nap before dinner.
